PERFECTION IN ALUMINUM

Žnjan Beach – Split's New Coastal Identity with FEAL's Aluminium Solutions

In the new episode of the show Architects and Projects, the renovation of Žnjan beach in Split was presented, one of the largest public coastal area development projects in Croatia. The project brings a completely new space design that combines recreational facilities, seaside enjoyment, and modern infrastructure, with a special focus on long-term sustainability and adaptation to the Mediterranean environment.

FEAL, along with partner REZAL, was involved in the execution of aluminium and glass elements, through the application of systems developed for demanding climatic conditions and intensive public space use.

Architecture in the service of space and Mediterranean ambience

The architectural solution for the project is signed by architect Marin Kaliterna, who designed the space according to principles of openness, simplicity and natural integration into the coastal landscape. The aim of the project was to create a functional space that would work equally well during the summer season, but also throughout the rest of the year as an extension of the urban life of the city.

Large open spaces, transparency of elements, and the unobtrusive relationship of the architecture with its surroundings were key elements of the concept.

FEAL systems for demanding coastal conditions

The project utilised FEAL systems Fasada 50FK, TERMO 65 and TERMO 85 VS/VP, chosen for their resistance to salt, moisture and the harsh weather conditions characteristic of coastal areas.

The 50FK facade system enabled the creation of large glazed areas and maximum natural light penetration, while maintaining high energy efficiency and a contemporary appearance for the buildings. The TERMO 65 and TERMO 85 VS/VP systems were used for the construction of doors and windows with an emphasis on durability, thermal insulation, and reliability with a high number of usage cycles.

For added protection of the aluminium profiles, „sea side“ pre-treatment for marine environments and super-durable Qualicoat Class 2 paints were used, ensuring the system's longevity and reducing maintenance requirements.

FEAL and REZAL partner collaboration

The project has been delivered in collaboration with partner REZAL, who were responsible for the manufacturing and installation of the aluminium joinery. Through the coordination of design, production, and execution, full compliance of the technical solutions with the architectural concept and functional requirements of the space has been ensured.

The Žnjan project represents a significant reference for FEAL in the field of public and infrastructural projects and confirms the application of aluminium systems on complex, high-capacity coastal projects.
